![]() 2012-04-26 SHE MALE SNAILS wins BIG at Gothenburg International Film Festival SHE MAIL SNAILS / POJKTANTEN by director Ester Martin Bergsmark had its Swedish premiere at Gothenburg International Film Festival 2012. The film was awarded three prizes: The Kodak New Vision Award for Best Cinematography for the unforgettable pictures of cinematographer Minka Jakerson and Ester Martin Bergsmark, the Audience Award for Best Nordic Film and the Honorable Mention for Best Nordic Film. The jury's motivation: "We're giving the honorable mention to a film that went beyond simple storytelling and reached a philosophical quality by touching a very sensible, even existential theme: the fragile construction of what you call your personality. The film showed the diversity and uncertainty of human nature that can easily be shaken, even devastated - that what you are depends on what others see in you, and that this might not be the same as what you see in yourself. The film approaches the delicate interaction between what you want to be and what you are expected to be, and puts a spotlight on the hidden sides of one's self." Still by Gabriella Duraffourd: Receiving the Audience Award, performing a spontaneous discoversion of "Don't cry for me Argentina". From left to right: Shima Niavarani (Dragon Award Hostess), Ester Martin Bergsmark (director), Eli Levén (main character) and Anna-Maria Kantarius (producer). |
